University of Virginia President Jim Ryan recently competed in his 13th Boston Marathon to raise money for UVA Health Children’s, and it turned out to be his most successful fundraiser yet. He raised over $52,000, which he will be presenting to UVA Health leaders today. This brings the total amount he has raised through his Boston Marathon runs to over $100,000.

Over 1,000 individuals contributed to the fundraising efforts to support UVA Health Children’s, a hospital that has been ranked as the No. 1 children’s hospital in Virginia for three consecutive years by U.S. News & World Report. The hospital offers a wide range of specialized care with nine specialties ranked among the top 50 nationally.

UVA Health Children’s provides primary and specialty care in over 30 specialties across Virginia and beyond. It is located within the UVA Health University Medical Center and includes facilities such as a pediatric emergency department, a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. The Battle Building houses the UVA Health Children’s Ambulatory Clinics, which offer integrated outpatient care to families in the region.

In an effort to expand services to children and families, UVA Health Children’s has partnered with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital to establish the UVA Health Children’s Neurodevelopmental and Behavioral Care clinic in Albemarle County. This clinic is set to open later this year, furthering UVA Health Children’s mission of providing comprehensive care to those in need.
