The 2024 edition of the “Best High Schools” ranking by U.S. News and World Report was released, and several San Diego-area schools were recognized among the best in the state. Canyon Crest Academy, part of the San Dieguito Union High School District, was ranked as the highest in the region, coming in at No. 15 in California and No. 140 nationwide. Following closely behind were The Preuss School UCSD and Del Norte High School, placing them at No. 2 and No. 3 in the county.

The top 10 public high schools in San Diego according to the rankings are as follows: Canyon Crest Academy, San Dieguito Union High School District, Preuss School UCSD, Del Norte High School, Westview High School, Mt. Everest Academy, Scripps Ranch High School, La Jolla High School, Sage Creek High School, River Valley Charter, and Del Lago Academy – Campus of Applied Science. U.S. News and World Report partners with a nonprofit research firm, RTI International, to evaluate nearly 25,000 high schools across the country. The rankings are based on factors such as graduation rates, standardized testing outcomes, and scores on college-level exams. Schools are then assigned ranks based on their overall score.
