Texas A&M Texarkana is building a new $45 million academic building to meet the high demands for degrees in business and technology-related fields. The groundbreaking event for the new building will take place on May 30, and it will house programs in business, engineering, and technology. The three-story building will be over 50,000 square feet and located on the southwest side of the university’s campus.

The new building will connect the existing science and technology buildings via walkways on the 2nd and 3rd floors. It will include the Center for Financial Literacy and Investment, laboratories for mechanical engineering and design, and a 255-seat lecture hall/auditorium. The project also involves updates to existing spaces in the current Science and Technology building, including laboratories for the electrical engineering program.

A&M-Texarkana President Dr. Ross Alexander expressed gratitude to the state legislature, Rep. Gary VanDeaver, Sen. Bryan Hughes, Chancellor Sharp, and the A&M System Board of Regents for their support in funding the new facility. The new building will provide opportunities for interdisciplinary study and research, creating synergies in high-impact fields to support state-of-the-art learning and provide skilled employees to businesses in East Texas and beyond.

Funding for the new construction was secured during the 87th legislative session in 2021. The new Business, Engineering, and Technology building is expected to play a significant role in the growth and momentum of Texas A&M University-Texarkana.
