The Legacy of Artistry and Science: Penczner in Memphis

By

Apr 19, 2024

Penczner, a Hungarian-born individual, and his German wife, Jolanda, were active members of a vibrant community of Central European expats in Memphis. Among their circle was Dr. Gabor Tigyi, also Hungarian, who served as the chair of the Department of Physiology at UT Health Science Center. Physiology is a critical discipline that focuses on understanding how organs and the body function.

Impressed by Tigyi’s work, the Penczners chose to entrust him with their estate. They established two legacy funds that are dedicated to maintaining research excellence and providing support to early-career researchers within the physiology department. Their generous bequests are aimed at supporting young scientists, particularly those who may be non-native U.S. scholars in Memphis.

By partnering with the Community Foundation, the Penczners have ensured that their legacy will continue to have a positive impact for generations to come. Their charitable contributions are safeguarded by the foundation, guaranteeing that their support for young scientists and research excellence in physiology will endure over time.
