The United States Senate approved a comprehensive bill on Tuesday that includes a military aid package worth US$95 billion for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan. The legislation also includes provisions that could lead to a ban on TikTok in the country if the app does not separate from its Chinese parent company, ByteDance. The bill received 79 votes in favor and 18 against and is now awaiting sanction from President Joe Biden.

According to reports from the Associated Press, President Biden is expected to sign the bill promptly and begin the process of sending new weapons to Ukraine to assist in their defense against Russian invasion. The military aid package allocates US$61 billion to Ukraine, US$26 billion to Israel, and US$8 billion to Taiwan to support their defense efforts against various threats in the region.

President Biden expressed his intention to sign the bill quickly in order to facilitate the immediate dispatch of weapons to Ukraine. He emphasized the importance of supporting allies in the fight against terrorism and oppressive regimes like Putin’s government in Russia.

The legislation concerning TikTok requires the app to separate from its Chinese parent company within nine months. Failure to comply with this requirement could result in a ban on TikTok in the US, due to concerns about potential connections to the Chinese regime. TikTok has stated that they will contest the law in court once it is signed into law by President Biden.
