Apr 16, 2024

Our UN teams are operating in 162 countries and territories, where they work together to address a wide range of priorities and initiatives on a daily basis. These efforts include climate action, food security, gender equality, and the safety of civilians. The UN Resident Coordinators and their teams use creative problem-solving approaches to better serve communities.

One highlight of their work this month includes the efforts in Ukraine, led by Resident Coordinator Denise Brown. A new report was published showcasing the results of more than 20 UN agencies’ support for communities recovering from the devastation of war. This support includes assistance to small businesses, repair of homes, schools, hospitals, and energy infrastructure development. In 2023, the UN team in Ukraine implemented over half a billion dollars in recovery initiatives, which is more than double the amount from the previous year. The efforts have benefited 6 million people through the installation of new infrastructure, support for businesses, repairs to schools, and job training for nearly 320,000 individuals. Donors have contributed nearly $1.1 billion to these recovery programs, which is 42% of the amount requested over the last two years.

The work in Ukraine complements the humanitarian response to address the immediate needs of those affected by Russia’s invasion. This support is crucial for the ongoing recovery efforts. For more updates from UN teams around the world, you can check out previous daily reports.
