Eight-time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt has been selected as the ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, set to be co-hosted by the USA and West Indies in June. Bolt, a track and field legend with world records in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m events, is expected to play a crucial role in promoting the tournament. Additionally, he will make a cameo appearance in the music video for the tournament’s official anthem alongside Sean Paul and Kes.

Expressing his excitement, Bolt shared, “I am thrilled to be an ambassador for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Cricket has always had a special place in my heart, coming from the Caribbean where it is deeply rooted in our culture. I am honored to be a part of such a prestigious event and look forward to contributing towards the global growth of cricket.”

Despite ultimately choosing a career in track and field, cricket was Bolt’s first love, and he originally aspired to become a fast bowler. Following his high school cricket coach’s suggestion, he transitioned to athletics. Bolt, known for his love of the sport, maintains a close friendship with Caribbean cricket legend Chris Gayle.

Reflecting on the importance of the T20 World Cup being hosted in the USA, Bolt highlighted the significance of bringing cricket to such a major sports market. He expressed optimism towards cricket’s potential inclusion in the LA Olympics in 2028, noting, “The energy we bring to the T20 World Cup is a huge opportunity for cricket’s return to the Olympics.” Bolt emphasized the importance of the Olympics in the sporting world, emphasizing the immense pride of standing on the podium and winning a gold medal.
