London’s National Theatre will host the world premiere of a stage adaptation of Noel Streatfeild’s best-selling book, Ballet Shoes. The adaptation, penned by Kendall Feaver, will be a festive, family-friendly show set to begin performances in the Olivier on November 23, with an official opening scheduled for December 5. Katy Rudd, known for her production of The Ocean at the End of the Lane, will direct the play.

Ballet Shoes follows the story of three adoptive sisters, Pauline, Petrova, and Posy, as they navigate their identities and dreams in a crumbling house filled with dinosaur bones and fossils. Guided by their guardians Sylvia and Nana, as well as some unexpected lodgers, the sisters work towards pursuing their individual passions.

The production will feature set design by Frankie Bradshaw, costume design by Samuel Wyer, choreography by Ellen Kane, composition by Asaf Zohar, lighting design by Paule Constable, sound design by Ian Dickinson, and casting by Bryony Jarvis-Taylor. National Theatre Director Rufus Norris expressed his excitement for the adaptation, stating that Feaver’s new take on the beloved story will inject fresh energy into the classic tale.

Tickets for Ballet Shoes will go on sale to the general public on May 2. More information can be found on the National Theatre’s website at NationalTheatre.org.uk.
