The New York Yankees have started the season with a record of 12-5, showing a promising beginning. Infielder DJ LeMahieu is expected to start a minor league rehab assignment soon, according to his own statements. LeMahieu anticipates playing just a few games in the minors before rejoining the Yankees at the major league level. Manager Aaron Boone confirmed that LeMahieu will likely be rehabbing with the Somerset team, but it remains to be seen if he will need more than five games to recover fully.

LeMahieu, who is 35 years old, had to be placed on the injured list right before the season started due to a bone bruise on his foot from a foul ball in spring training. This injury opened up opportunities for Oswaldo Cabrera, who has impressed with his performance so far. Cabrera has a batting average of .292, an on-base percentage of .346, and a slugging percentage of .521. He has hit three home runs and driven in 12 runs for the team.

On another note, the Yankees’ ace pitcher Gerrit Cole is continuing to progress in his recovery. Boone mentioned that Cole threw from a distance of 75 feet, which was part of his expected rehabilitation plan. Cole was placed on the 60-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation, making him ineligible to return until at least May 27. However, Cole himself is aiming for June 1 as his target date to resume pitching for the team.
