This summer, kids in Santa Monica have the chance to participate in the Aquarium Science Camp offered by Heal the Bay. As an environmental nonprofit organization, Heal the Bay is committed to ensuring the safety, health, and cleanliness of coastal waters and watersheds in Greater Los Angeles. Throughout the year, the nonprofit provides various programs and camps aimed at fostering students’ passion for science and learning.

The Aquarium Science Camp, running from June 24 to July 26, offers a hands-on educational experience where children can explore the ocean, discover the wonders of the natural world, and cultivate an interest in marine science. Each week, campers get to explore different ocean environments, interact with live animals in the Aquarium, observe the beach, participate in games, and learn how to be ocean stewards.

Kelly Kelly, the Associate Director of Aquarium Education at Heal the Bay, explains how the camp engages children by making learning relevant through activities such as searching for sand crabs and playing games that ignite their curiosity about science and the ocean. The camp environment provides a fun and interactive space for kids to make their own observations, ask questions, develop explanations, and share information.

Located at the Heal the Bay Aquarium on the Santa Monica Pier, the camp is open to children entering kindergarten through eighth grade, with daily and weekly rates available. To learn more about the camps, interested individuals can visit https://healthebay.org/camps/ or reach out to Robert Ramos at rramos@healthebay.org with any questions they may have.
