This summer, children have the chance to participate in science activities and explore the captivating water systems in Santa Monica at Heal the Bay’s Aquarium Science Camp. Heal the Bay is a nonprofit organization that is committed to preserving the coastal waters and watersheds in Greater Los Angeles, ensuring they are safe, healthy, and clean. The nonprofit offers various programs and camps throughout the year that focus on inspiring young students to develop a passion for science and learning.
The Aquarium Science Camp runs from June 24 to July 26 and provides a hands-on learning experience for kids to study the ocean, discover the natural world, and nurture their interest in marine science. Each week, campers get to explore different ocean environments, interact with live animals in the Aquarium, observe the beach, play games, and learn how to be responsible ocean stewards.
According to Kelly Kelly, the Associate Director of Aquarium Education at Heal the Bay, the camp offers engaging experiences like digging in the sand, discovering sand crabs, and participating in activities that encourage a love for both science and the ocean. The camp environment allows children to have fun while making their own observations, asking questions, explaining their findings, and sharing information with their peers.
The Aquarium Science Camp takes place at the Heal the Bay Aquarium located on the Santa Monica Pier and is open to kids entering kindergarten through eighth grade.
