Cal State Fullerton is revolutionizing sports media education with the introduction of the Sports Media Certificate Program within the Department of Communications. Through this program, students will gain valuable hands-on experience, including the exclusive opportunity to report live from the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. This experience is designed to not only enhance students’ resumes but also improve their skills as future sports media professionals.

Gayle Jansen Brisbane, an assistant professor of communications at CSUF, and Bob Young, a faculty associate at Arizona State University, will mentor students through this transformative educational journey. The study abroad experience will immerse students in the excitement of the Paris Olympics, providing them with a deeper understanding of diverse cultures and the global sports landscape.

With a dual focus on sports journalism and writing, participants will develop a comprehensive skill set that will distinguish them in the competitive field of sports media. The program aims to expand students’ global perspectives and refine their abilities within the realm of sports media education.

In order to ensure that all students have the opportunity to participate in the program, donations are actively being sought to make it more accessible for underrepresented students.
