Nearly 4,000 Tesla Cybertrucks are being recalled due to an issue with the accelerator pedal. The pedal can stick in place when pressed down, causing safety concerns. The cause of the issue, according to the regulator, is soap. An unapproved change introduced lubricant (soap) to aid in component assembly, which caused the pedal to become stuck.
Tesla has not disclosed how many Cybertrucks it has produced so far but has mentioned that production would be slowly ramping up. The first deliveries of the futuristic vehicle took place in late November. The recall affects all Model Year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and April 4, 2024. This likely includes most, if not all, of the trucks currently on US roads.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, applying high force to the pad on the accelerator pedal may cause the pad to dislodge and become trapped, preventing the pedal from functioning properly. Workers at Tesla’s factory near Austin, Texas, used soap improperly in the assembly process, leading to the issue. The accelerator sticking problem was initially reported in social media and online forums, prompting the NHTSA to contact Tesla for more information.
Unlike other Tesla recalls that can be fixed with software updates, this issue will require Cybertruck owners to bring their vehicles to service centers for repairs. Tesla has stated that the repairs will be done at no charge. As of now, Tesla has not provided a comment on the recall.
