Vaccines play a crucial role in controlling the burden of dengue fever, which costs billions of dollars to the world every year. Professor Vu Sinh Nam emphasized that currently, there is no specific treatment for dengue fever, and the focus is on symptomatic care and monitoring to prevent complications. However, the large epidemics caused by the dengue virus make treatment challenging and can lead to fatalities.

The prevention of dengue fever faces various challenges, including the lack of effective solutions to combat disease-causing viruses and the absence of a comprehensive management plan. The World Health Organization (WHO) and the WHO’s strategic advisory group of experts on immunization (SAGE) recommend the implementation of vaccination programs in countries with a high burden of dengue fever.

Medical experts believe that vaccines will be a new tool in combating the epidemic, with vaccines already being utilized in countries like Europe, Brazil, and Indonesia. In Brazil, the vaccine will be included in the expanded vaccination program starting from March 2023 to address the increasing number of cases. In Vietnam, several vaccines are under clinical trials, and authorities are carefully reviewing their safety before approval for public use.

Professor Nam advocates for the prompt availability of dengue fever vaccines in Vietnam to complement traditional prevention methods such as mosquito control and using protective clothing. Dengue fever remains a significant concern in countries across Southeast Asia and Latin America, with a notable increase in cases and fatalities compared to previous years. The economic burden of dengue fever is substantial, impacting healthcare systems and economies.

In conclusion, the introduction of dengue fever vaccines can provide an additional layer of defense against the disease, contributing to the overall management and control of dengue fever outbreaks.
